A Day with Native Speakers Part 2

(Xsata, April 2026). A bright and sunny morning was the atmosphere of SMK Negeri Tengaran that day on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 when we were expecting forvour special guests. For the second time, our school got the opportunity to learn English directly with native speakers. Different from the previous visit, at this moment, our guests entered the classes to have direct conversation with students.

At around 8.30, our guests arrived accompanied by bapak Supriyanto and two friends. Our headmaster, bapak Drs. Santoso, M.M welcomed the guests by giving a batik shawl with Indonesia and SMK Tengaran embroidery. Our native speakers’ names are Areila from South Africa, Alena, Ruben, Anna, and Talita from Netherlands, Liora from Switzerland, Sidney from Germany and Artanu from India.

Our guests were headed to Tefa of Culinary Department to have a welcoming ceremony. Bapak Santoso in his speech, expressed a warm welcome to all of our guests and a deep gratitude for their willingness to be in SMK Negeri Tengaran. He also hoped that not only the students but also teachers can learn more from the native speakers. Before entering the classes, our guests had a kind of ‘warm up’ session with several students, talking about self-introduction, school and global religious tolerance.

After around 30 minutes of ‘warming up’, our guests were ready to enter the classes. Each native accompanied by one English teacher. In class, students were enthusiastic to welcome the native speakers. They asked many different questions that sometimes challenged our guests. In one of the classes, Artanu, who’s coming from India, was asked to dance, and also Anna from Netherlands. At around 11.30, the session of class trip ended. All of our guests were back to Tefa Culinary to have lunch together with Indonesia menus.

During lunchtime, we had a conversation about the food and also the class trip. They were enjoying the food very much and lots of funny experiences they had with the students. Most of the students asked about hobbies or their favourite food and music, and some funny questions such as, which one do you like, iron man or spider-Man. For the closing remarks, bapak Supriyanto expressed his gratitude for inviting the native speakers. Anna and Liora added by giving some tips in learning English. Such as, watching movies, reading, and listening to favourite English songs are a fun and easy way to do. Thanks a bunch to our new friends…hope we can see again someday.
